(Notes of 06/01/2008) Tasted by a half-pint at the Devonshire Cat in Sheffield, served cool by a swan-neck hand pull.
A: coming in a straw hue, with almost no beer head, medium-minus fizziness and good clarity.
S: the citric side of hops dominates the nose, also refreshing and soothing as regards a hop-malt balance; as it warms, a slightly stinky hay-ish note comes forward.
T: the mildly salty taste goes with semi-acidic citric hoppiness, with medium hop bitterness developing in the aftertaste with a touch of lightly-toasted malts’ aroma lagging in the background.
M&D: mildly spritzy, just idea for a cask-conditioned ale; due to the semi-boring and one-dimensional flavour profile, alas, this ale pales… not least in terms of colour.
