This beer is the newly released milk stout with the additional of locally roasted Ethiopian Sidamo Guji coffee. Served on nitro, it pours a very dark brown with clarity faintly seen around edges. A rich and silky khaki head stands tall on this brew and persists like only nitro can. Wonderful looking brew.
The smell is absolutely rich and roasty with layers of coffee character. It is slightly earthen with a depth of coffee flavorings and roast that I cannot easily say ive experienced before. It gets mildly citrus-like towards the back of the nose.
The taste is intense with a wonderful coffee flavoring. Some bitter chocolate and earthy roast mingle with almost a mild smokiness and char feel. I honestly dont know where the coffee ends and the beer picks up.
Being served on nitro gives this a slick and creamy rich mouthfeel that is excessively drinkable. It's lighter bodied though and moderate to lightly carbonated in the way it feels. No alcohol to be detected.
This beer is everything id hope it would be. It is a beautiful upgrade from the base. The coffee addition fills voids of the base beer where it was needed and covers up some of the flaws I didnt like - such as green yeastiness and mineral character. The coffee is so prominent yet I dont think it was excessive like the last coffee beer experience I had with SGB. Folks, this beer is brilliant and something I hope many people get a chance to try.
