Missed reviewing this earlier this year. Going from notes taken at the time.

A-Deep copper with some lighter highlights. A thick light tan head billows up from the glass. This eventually falls to leave spotty lace.

S-chestnut body with some ruby hues and thick, two-finger creamy off-white, almost beige, head. Excellent looking cask brew. Head completely disappeared halfway through and left very sparse lacing.

S-Sweet caramel malts with a nice touch of light floral and teasing citrus hops.

T-Lightly bitter up front with notes of floralness and light citrus. Balanced out nicely with sweet caramel malt and just a touch of brown sugar.

M-Medium-light bodied and just a little thin. Any lasting bitterness or flavour is very short lived. This one misses the mark a bit here.

D-Hey, it's on cask...a good start! Pretty good overall, a bit lacking in aroma and body but it is ceratinly drinkable. Much like an ESB in profile. You never know what you'll get with these Winning Jar beers so you have to drink them each time they come out to see what Steve has concocted!

On cask at Selin's Grove on 1/19/08. Served in a pint glass.

A - Fairly clear chestnut body with some ruby hues and thick, two-finger creamy off-white, almost beige, head. Excellent looking cask brew. Head completely disappeared halfway through and left very sparse lacing.

S - Perfumy hop aroma with some candy sweetness, sugar and caramel malt. A bit of flowery hops as well as some notes akin to their IPA. Also lots of malty and sweet characteristics.

T - Drinks like an English bitter with a mild flowery and perfumy hop profile. Balanced with sweet malts - lots of caramel and sugar sweetness. Tastes like a mixture of at least three of their brews.

M - Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, but a little thin and watery on the palate. Finish is only mildly bitter and quite short. Some sweetness remains on the tongue, as well as some perfumy hop residue.

D - Definitely an interesting brew, and on cask no less. Easy to drink and not a lot of hop bitterness overall. Has the sweetness and hop profile of an ESB.

NOTE: Spoke to Steve, the head brewmaster and owner, and he said the Winning Jar ale is made by taking leftover beer from kegs they have at the brewery, mixing them together and then cask conditioning the mixture, resulting in a unique blend every time. They only produce Winning Jar ales every once in a while. Glad I was able to try one of these, as they are pretty rare to see at the brewpub.
