Whats that? A new ipa from SGB? Yes indeed ill have a few glasses. Served in a pub glass, the brew appears a hazed color of burnt copper. A creamy tan head sits atop with decent retention and produces spotty lace as it fades. A swirl revives a film of bubbles back to the surface.

A big floral nose greets you blended into a sweet fruity quality. A bit of pine and also rindy quality is evident mixed with a slight touch of solvent alcohol and herbs takes the nose off in a new direction. This is a fine smelling offering.

The taste is herbal and rindy with some fruity and floral notes breaking things up. A mild toasty grain backing is there with a very mild almost candy sugar hint. The sweetness is present only shortly before getting dissolved by the bitterness. Once warm, more of a focus on a solventt burn of alcohol runs across the palate.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is well rounded and very enjoyable. As far as this brew goes, I cant say that the whole hops brought much more to tr table than steve's normal ipa offering. Where this brew doea differ though is with the progressively more intense alcohol bite. This is solid and certainly worth a try (just like all of the other ipa iterations when they are available.)

A - Served with a hazy golden orange body with a two finger, fluffy head...the head was white in color and retained very well...patchy lacing was left behind

S - Tropical fruits reign supreme with orange, grapefruit, and some lemon...the hops are leafy but also lend a bit of spice as the beer warms...minimal malt bill

T - The flavors mirror the nose pretty closely with some downfalls...the hops start off with big citrus flavors...grapefruit and orange dominate...there is a bit of fruit rind hanging out but it's kind of off putting...there is a caramel malt sweetness mixed with some bready malts as well...as the beer warms the leafy hops provide a spiciness...I don't like when my hops get spicy

M - Medium bodied...smooth, semi-sweet, leafy hops with a touch of spice

O - I personally prefer the regular IPA but it's always nice to see something different made with hops being the star...looking forward to the fresh hop IPA soon

Served on-tap at the brewpub.

A - Pours slightly hazed copper orange with a nice one and a half finger tall off white head leaving spotty rings of lace down the glass.

S - Smells of leafy hops, dulled citric fruit and plenty of sugary caramel sweetness. A good amount of booze develops as it sits in the glass, competing with the sweetness for dominance.

T - Starts off with a nice dose of piney citric hops quickly giving way to a ton of sweet caramel malt that never really goes away. Some dulled tropical fruit tries to come through but the sweetness is too strong. Finish is sweet with some lingering booze.

M - Smooth body with a ton of sweetness in the flavor and moderate carbonation. Bitter-sweet feel throughout, good amount of booze burn at the end of each sip.

O - I would say this is my least favorite IPA I have had from Selin's Grove. It is way too sweet and the stronger than usual alcohol makes it hard to finish the entire glass.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

Poured a clearish copper color with a small white head that retained fairly well. I hate to say this about a beer and any hops in general, but here goes... Aroma was strong with cat pee, yes, big time ammonia and mothballs here. Almost knocked me out, but I decided to go back in for a taste. Fortunately, the flavor was much better. Hop dominant with a good variety--citrus, pine, herbal--pale malt base slightly detectable, as well as a slight gin-like booziness. Light-medium body and decently drinkable if you can get past the aroma, which kind of killed the experience for me.

Too bad their regular IPA wasn't on when I visited because I've heard good things. This on the other hand, hmm, I don't think I'd go for it again.

On tap @ the SGB on 5/12/12. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear copper, topped with a thin covering of bright head. This maintains some rich bunching around the edges of the glass, leaving back a sudsy cascade of spotty froth. The aroma is fresh, leafy, and herbal with some light pine and grapefruit notes up front, while some more gentle fruit tones and doughy sugars from the malts soften things up a bit more across the back of the nose.

The taste has a surprisingly mellow bitterness up front that is more about green citric flavors that meld into softer fruit character and herbal tones. A bready sweetness offers support underneath but bitterness does start to creep into the backend of the profile, with a dry, resinous, and bitter feel that sticks to the tongue. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp on the tongue but then more smooth and creamy feeling along the back. This is actually a little boozier than I was expecting and is holding the overall drinkability of this back a good bit for me.

I’m usually a sucker of any IPA that the SGB puts on but I just couldn’t get into this one. It tastes like a dumbed down version of their usually awesome American IPA recipe with an unwelcome alcohol bite mixed in as well. My palate was fed up with this about half way through the glass. This was an unfortunate miss from here for me.

Growler filled approximately 24 hours ago, poured into a snifter

Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a thin ecru cap. Some minor lacing. I can already tell the effect of 24 hours in the growler, but no complaints here.

The aroma is of pine resin, caramel, juicy fruit gum, and some ethanol. Fairly well-balanced but the hops win the delicate dance.

On the palate, pine needles and juicy tropical fruit come out swinging. Mid-palate the caramel malt base comes through before sweeping bitterness. There is a little bit of tropical juicy fruit sweetness that pokes through.

Medium to full bodied, creamy and smooth with some sharpness from the alcohol.

This is a damn good IPA. The bitterness just builds and builds with each sip leaving my tastebuds looking for reprieve.
