sampled on tap at hopcat jan 23/2010 as part of their 2nd annual extreme beer fest.
pours hazy dark orange, more brown than read, with a small dense white head. the head drops fairly fast and leaves lots of lace.
aroma is good. dark caramel. faint alcohol. orange and tangerine. light grapefruit. wheat bread and biscuit. bit of cracker.
taste is good. great burnt caramel character. lightly toasted white bread. biscuit. bit of cracker. resiny pine and grapefruit. medium-high bitterness level. i like that caramel character and that it doesn't come with a bunch of sweetness. lightly fruity.
mouthfeel is good. medium-large body with a fairly dry finish. fine medium carbonation level. light astringency from the hops.
drinkability is good. nice balance - not overly sweet or bitter, but i like the touch of linger that the hops have. good malt depth and complexity. a solid dipa.
