A - Deep dark brown, near black. I actually thought the waitress brought the wrong beer when she gave it to me. 1/4 inch beige head. I've never had a 'black' b-wine or dark dark brown b-wine so I was excited to try it
S - Whiskey and chocolate and not much else...I do love the whiskey though!
T - Whiskey hits you right away, then a hint of chocolate then alcohol 'spice' all the way down. The alcohol is prevalent through and through followed by a touch of piney hop...not much though
M - Highly carbonated, thin and hot
D - Hot alcohol here and you really taste all 9.5%. I was pretty excited to try this one but I think it fell a bit short of what it could have been with a bit more time to mellow
I loved the Hopcat brew pub and all the other beers I had there...this one fell a bit short but still a nice experience

This is Hopcat's Barrel Aged Barleywine
Pours 1.3 finger of creamy tan head. Color is a deep brown, near black. Doesn't look anything like a bwine.
Aroma: Rich whiskey, very warming. Big flavors. Rich and malty. Caramel, dark fruits, raisins.
Taste: More big whiskey flavors and oak. Sweet and malty. Plums, raisins, toffee. Very big and boozy.
Mouthfeel: Rich and sweet. Larger bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Very boozy. Ends warm and dry.
Overall, the aroma is great, but there is too much booze in the taste. I do like the whiskey flavors though. Somewhat drinkable.
