Amber color. Nice, off-white head. Malt, bread, and spices in aroma. Sweet, malty taste with a hint of yeasts. Full body.

Look: It pours cooper and is a bit cloudy. It has a tan head with low head retention.

Smell: It has strong caramel and molasses aromas. There are very low levels of fruit in the background.

Taste: It has strong caramel flavors with molasses. There are citrus touches.

Feel: It has a full body and the syrupy side. The finish is slighty sweet with bitterness.

Overall, there are some interesting elements with an intersting mouthfeel.

This one pours a dark-ish amber color, with some floating sediments, a big fluffy white head, and lots of lacing. It kind of looks like iced tea.

This smells like dark fruits, and fruit in general – plum, raisin, orange, stone fruit, with some sweet bready maltiness, and clove.

This is a malty beast, and doesn’t exactly bring the “pale” in Belgian Strong “Pale” Ale. There’s no real hop character to speak of that I can discern, with bready, caramelly, and very fruity malt characteristics, with both dark and stone fruit characteristics both visible to the palate.

This is a bit heavy on the palate, but not syrupy, but with no real booziness to it.

This was a fun try – not exactly how I would have executed it, but still tasty.

Poured from an undated bottle into the test glass
A - Amber backdrop, gently carbonated, a quick to recede cap leaves some fine lacing
S - Honey, orange reduction, a bit of white toast
T - Orange marmalade, candied pine apple. a bit of toffee
M - Slick feel with a medium body, carbonation is no match for the sweetness. Linger is a bit off putting
O - Glad to have tried this offering, the body, and the sweet flavors are that of a flat Dubble.
Will look for this again to compare

Had it at Machiavelli restaurant NYC. Poured from a cool looking bottle (currently attempting to submit pic) a dark amber with a big foamy and creamy Belgian style head. Head soon recedes but retains some lace. This one is kind of dark for a BSPA.
Very sweet aroma and taste. Mostly caramel malt flavors. Only faint tones of spiciness, however, often not enough to balance the near cloying sweetness. Body a bit thick and not favorable for easy drinking.
I like to see Italy joining in on the craft beer movement and I applaud their effort at a Belgian style. However, it misses the mark for BSPA in that it is too sweet, full and lacking complexity.

What a great beer. It's really different and difficult to rate or describe. It's its own take on the style and doesn't neatly fit within the boundaries. It's as much of a Belgian Pale Ale as Anchorage's Bitter Monk is a Belgian IPA.

If you like Belgian Pale Ales, I'd say it's worth a try.

If you hate Belgian Pale Ales, I'd say it's worth a try.

It's worth a try.

of the italian makers, baladin has been the most up and down for me. when they hit, its incredible, but the misses are really unflattering, and this one is more on this miss side for me. billed as an amber type, not sure how this version is different from the other supers listed here, but its extremely sweet, and would probably top 10% abv if it was fermented all the way down. old penny copper shade, some cloudiness, and a tall and patient belgian-esque off white head. it smells like interesting yeast, which i think is the italians greatest contribution on the whole. its doughy and tangy and very much alive. the problem is that the rest of the beer doesnt do much for me. overly heavy on the caramel malt side of things, and its just sweet and breakfasty all the way though it from smell to taste, and its hard to drink much of. a slight metallic property to the finish, and an onslaught of residual sugars, falling into the brown sugar realm, but not quite as heavy. it lingers forever and there is a lot of body here. substantial sweetness bogs this one down too much, and the fun yeast is lost to that. not worth what i paid for it this time around, but you dont ever know until you try. curious about the other incarnations of super though...
