Bottle sample at Mondiale 2010. Dark brown with almost no head. Easy mouthfeel, if not oily. Malt aromas. Not very drinkable as sourness and lightly acidic, cloying sweetness, alcohol and roast, many characteristics of a brown ale. Extreme ideas thrown together.

Purchased this 750 ml bottle at a cool beer store in Mantua, Italy on or about 6 19 09. Poured into a clean, clear glass in Taoramina, Italy some days later. Review from notes taken when I tasted this beer without the benefit of being online to find out the beer's style. I did not change my comments.
A Hazy yellow brown body under a smooth 3 inch head after a fairly vigorous pour. In fact, it spilled over the edge of the glass whose depth I had overestimated.
S Strong grains, malt, alcohol. Inviting.
T Strange! Some what bitter like vinegar, malt and spices. It was difficult for me to categorize this beer. It certainly got my attention though!
M Big with ABV, vinegar bitterness.
D Fair to good. The big ABV and the vinegar bitterness drove down the drinkability for me.
Notes: An odd beer, leaves me scratching my head a bit. It has a lot of strength, strong tastes.

This beer has an absolutely marvelous head: Towering, thick, stable, solid, and brilliantly white. The liquid is something of a murky moderately brown color. Nice aroma...a bit of white pepper, yeast, malt, pears and peaches, and a little dry leaves. The yeast really stands out. There's also some alcohol in the smell, but the scent is not overwhelming. Spicy, phenolic taste, backed by a sweet and malty flavor. Light, slightly toasted, bready malt character. A lot of yeast flavor here. Full and relatively smooth mouthfeel. The beer hides the ABV quite well through the taste. Soft and lingering yeast and malt finish. Not overly sweet, yet balanced toward the malt. This is a solidly good brew.

Light orange color, lightly veiled, with a lot of thin floating corpuscles. Cream colored head, a finger, beautiful. A lot of thin perlage.
In the smell: salty, white grapes, unripe peach, spicy notes (green pepper, and others). Also green apple, and yellow flowers. Fresh.
Strange, intriguing, interesting. Very variable, variegated, the smell notes change continously, Good, complex, variegated.
At the taste the first impression is salty. Then fresh spices, white, floral. Orange peel, fennel. Dry.
The 9 ABV are not perceptible, hidden by the variety of flavour of this beer.
Average body, lightly citric aftertadte, fresh, dry. Another sip.
Great beer.
