Somehow got this for $2 I think mismarked at my regular beer place. I think it's worth $2, maybe $4. $6 is a bit steep (sticker price). It is a pretty decent DIPA but not spectacular. Kind of heavy like most DIPA beers are. A little bitter but not extremely so. Not bad, not great. We have another local beer here that is usually $2.50 each pint in a 4 pack More Cowbell that I like better by Buffalo Bayou brewing I think. I'd stick with that one. More bitter. More IPAish. I'm not saying this is a bad brew there's just better DIPAs out there.

Pours out orange/copper in color. The head is white with excellent retention and leaves tones of stick lacing evenly around the glass.
The nose is very tropical. Getting pineapple, orange, grapefruit, all with a nice sweet caramel backbone. This one is fragrant.
Bitter citrus fruit rind with caramel sweetness. Mostly getting the orange on the taste. The alcohol is a bit noticeable.
The mouthfeel is full bodied with easy carbonation. Feels smooth.

16 oz can pours a clear, deep gold color with a large cap of off white head. Amazing lace and fair retention. Good looker.
Nose isnt really all that impressive. Biscuity malt and a herbal, flowery hop aroma. Soapy almost...
Taste makes up for the nose with a pungently floral hop flavor and a fair bitter bite on the end. In between is a chewy bread and waffle batter malt. It all works together pretty well, but Im not sure if I would really want to shell out another 6 bucks for a 16 oz can.
TL:DR - smells kinda like cat pee and taste is not as tropical as I would like for a newer style IPA.

A ton of tropical fruit. Melon, white grapes, peach, mango. Nice bitterness with a subtle but present malt backbone.
Clean crisp mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness and ripe peach.
No alcohol presence.

Serving: 16 oz can poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: Nearly clear, golden yellow with a tall, frothy head of white foam that leaves nice, clumpy lace.
Smell: Juicy tropical fruit, sweet caramel and green vegetables.
Taste: Light citrus and tropical fruit filled out by caramel malt and an assertive herbal bitterness in the finish. Dank, vegetal notes creep in from the nose along with some alcoholic heat.
Mouthfeel: Medium body and crisp, moderate carbonation.
Overall: A big, malty DIPA from Southern Star that’s just not entirely integrated in its bitter bite and vegetal off-notes.

Golden/amber color with the slightest haze and a sticky cream head. Muted nose but scents of floral and pineapple. Tropical fruit notes, slight booze sting on the end. Great body and feel, but overly bitter but the hop profile is there with great fresh, green flavors. A great offering from SS.
