Medium amber in color with a thin white head. Mild flavor. Sweet and malty with a hint of spice. Not bitter at all, which is nice. Clean, crisp, some carbonation. Light to medium bodied. Pleasant, refreshing.

Bought on 10/02/2019 at HEB on Fry rd near I-10 this n Katy, TX.
Look; hazy light amber/dark gold. Minimal white head.
Smell NA. In my 12oz sample it was nonexistent.
Taste; carbonated water followed by a slight sour taste, and then some lightly toasted grain. There is a pleasant semisweet finish. Overall, it’s ok, I’m not sure what they were trying to make but it’s very plain, ho-hum, boring. Like I said, there are many better beers to try than this, especially for the price of premium craft beers. Glad I only bought a single.

12 oz. can poured into "craft beer glass" (wide-mouthed stick)

L: clear gold topped by thin head of offwhite foam; no sticking or lacing, keeps a thin collar of beige foam

S: stale grain, very light caramel ... the grain is like a sack of dried seed rice (like the aroma off sacks at TWI, El Campo, TX, 1980-88)

T: malty sweet up front, peach, peach rind, a bit of creamed corn; very little hop presence, perhaps a pinch of something earthy in the background

F: crispy, light, nothing off-kilter ... simple and easy to handle

O: I've no idea how old my can is (bought a single at HEB on Villa Maria in Bryan, TX), and it's possible it's 6 months to a year old, so it's hard to feel confident about reviewing this one; as is, it's simple but effective with a light toasted-malt flavor and plenty of carbonation to fill out the mouthfeel for a pleasant quaff; the first sip from the bottom of the can had that worrying super-caramely/creamed-corn flavor that suggests a full malt takeover, messy and cloyingly sweet, but that's not the case ... in fact, it's good enough that I'd buy a 6-pack if I could find some fresh (3 months or younger); bottom line is it has enough going for it to continue my confidence in Southern Star, which has never disappointed me

Very smooth and sessionable. Better in my opinion than Shiner. They could sell a ton of this.
