Piney India Pale Ale - Day four of the 12 days of Krampus collection

Before Christmas trees, there were yule logs. These were special decorated tree boughs brought into the home to be burned in the hearth. A ghost story or two have been told around its fading light. Our yule log may not be an actual log, but it's an American-style IPA packed full of piney resinous hop aromas to stir the winter spirit.

Outstanding if you ask me.

Looks good and smells great.

Very earthy, hugely malty, definitely some pine, complex and evolving.

This type of IPA just isn't around that much these days, falling behind to hazy, NE and West coast. But the earthy, malty IPA perhaps should be its own style, or at least a dialect or something.

I wish I had more of these.

12oz can with no date. Day 4 of the 12 Days of Krampus pack.
1" off white head with excellent retention. Full sheets of lacing.
Deep copper penny color with some haze and a bunch of carbonation streaming.
Floral, big pine, mint, earthy, leafy, and light candy orange on a big malt (hint of caramel) base.
Full body, soft mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Moderate bitterness in a lengthy off-dry finish.
SN Celebration style of IPA as a good descriptor.
Very Good to Outstanding.

Poured from can into tulip, good 2 finger whitish/light tan head, great retention and lacing. Ruby orange in the glass, not clear at all. Big pine and dankness on the nose, no question what you are getting here. Initial taste is old school pine, my initial guess would be they took Pine Belt and upped the grain bill, which isn't a bad thing. Along with the pine there is a good amount of malt sweetness, dankness and the whole thing is reigned in by a good sharp bitterness on the finish. Honestly I love this beer, old school all the way and that head and lacing are just incredible. This is a good one reminds me a lot of SN celebration.
