Sampled from gravity pour multiple times at Brewvival. As the name implies, this is Buried Hatchet with dark cherries.
Pours black with a thin tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.
Smells of smooth roasted malts with lightly tart dark cherry flavors. Also present are hints of semi-sweet chocolate flavors.
Tastes similar to how it smells, although not as robust. Roasted malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by dark chocolate flavors and hints of earthy hops. Midway through the sip mildly tart dark cherry flavors come into play, carrying through to a moderately bitter ending.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.
Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this beer - another solid offering from Southern Star. Well worth a shot if you see it around.
