die Königin is an unfiltered oak-aged Kellerbier. This strong lager pours hazy, bright amber with a white head. Lightly effervescent with assertive biscuit qualities and an adequate Tettanang hop presence, die Königin is matured for several weeks on light toast oak, imparting a creamy mouth feel and a dry finish, accentuating sweet malt qualities. This Stark Lager is produced in small quantities for lager connoisseurs with the most discerning palates.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. beer. Has a copper/orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of oak, malts, some honey. Taste is big on oak, malts in the background, unique and refreshing. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Look- pours a copper color, modest bubbly head, patchy thin lace. The lace dissipates to nothing halfway through.
Smell- a little lemony and tart, slightly citric at first. Then, a sweet tea like aroma, then, dry tea leaves. Overall, these aromas are faint, as the smell is mostly clean. However, halfway through, a strong barnyard aroma takes over.
Taste-raw grain, tea like. Sweet but with a dry finish. Moderate buttering hops balances it out.
Feel- light and smooth. Tingly and crisp.
This is my first beer of this style. It had some good moments. I'd like to get to know it better.

New style for me. It is a lager yep. Some other stuff, sure. I can't compare with others to know where this ranks within. Fine for a one and done I suppose

On-draught @ Local Option. Truncated notes given the review environment:
A: White colour head lasts 4 minutes. Average attributes. Inconsistent lacing.
Body is a translucent semitransparent pale copper. No visible yeast.
Looks average for the style overall.
Sm: Honey malt, Munich malt, hints of oxidized yeastiness (if that's a thing...), apple cidre, Noble Hops.
Aromatic intensity is above average.
Not as musty or lively as the best examples of the style.
T & Mf: Follows the aroma, with more acidity than anticipated, as well as ample apple skin flavour. Malty sweetness is near ideal, but more yeast presence would be nice. Average flavour duration, depth, and intensity.
As it warms, untamed bitterness in the third act signals overhopping.
Mellow and understated, with ample cohesion. Not an intricate, subtly executed, or impressive brew.
Texture is generically smooth, wet, and overcarbonated. Between light and medium-bodied. Suits the taste generally well, but doesn't elevate the beer as a whole.
O: A middle of the road kellerbier (not zwickelbier) with decent flavours and high drinkability. But it's generic and forgettable within its style. The cidery notes and vague fruit are nice, but underdeveloped.

nobody does this, and more people should. how impressive, an oak aged strong lager with some real grain character, totally original and impressive, and if this isnt my favorite from these guys, its up there for sure. a murky almost brown color to it, with a good head. smells like oak for sure, new oak, wet oak, not a whiskey barrel, not charred, just woody and earthy, a little sweet. the malt base is nice, a hint of toasted cereal to it, with the bready lager yeast, a neat and rustic combination. weirdly dry in the finish for what it is, i thought there would have to be a little more sweetness hanging around, but there isnt at all. i get a raisin note in the finish too, as well as the woody richness. its very mellow, full bodied but smooth as they come, and remarkably well carbonated. fairly priced too. its been awhile since i had a new beer from these guys, and i have never had one on tap, so this was a real treat. highly recommended if you can find it. this was at choice city in fort collins, who always seems to have the heady stuff flowing!
