Developed and brewed by Local Option Bierwerker, this Vienna style lager was inspired by and pays homage to world-renown chef, author, and television personality Anthony Bourdain. This premium red lager was brewed with the highest quality German Pilsner, Melanoidin and Amber malts; perfectly balanced with the German hop triumvirate of Magnum, Perle and Tettnang; and fermented with a crisp, clean, lager yeast. Anthony of Bourdainia is a formidable beer to be enjoyed with or without food.

On-tap at Local Option. Served in a pint glass, I think?

A - White foam settles to a thick cap and thicker collar, leaving splotchy lace behind. Transparent amber body.

S - I didn't know what style this was when I ordered it - I initially thought it was an Altbier, which isn't a bad guess. Sweet caramel malts, toffee, a bit of that characteristic buttery pilsner malt flavor, and a hint of chocolate.

T - Taste is significantly less sweet, with more toasted and sharp grains, red fruits and licorice, and some light herbal hop bitterness in the finish.

M - Medium body, smooth and chewy texture, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - A solid take on a fairly conservative style of beer. I like how the Local Option guys are cutting their teeth on lower ABV traditional styles. I think I'd have gotten more of the subtlety out of this one on a fresh palate, but otherwise it seemed spot on.

Enjoyed on tap at The Local Option with the brewers. Not your traditional Vienna Very malty, including chocolate malt, fruity. feels light so increases drinkability. Above average mouthfeel. a nice one, and reinforces my choice of attendance and the long drive from home.

On tap at Au Cheval, quick review from notes.

Pint arrives with a sturdy cap of foam, its a clear reddish tone with bright clarity. Some lacing forms around the edges, and the head lasts a bit.

Fruity yeast aroma, buttered biscuits, lightly nutty with toasted grains. Some light lingering bitterness in the aftertaste, malt forward and flavorful. Medium bodied and fairly smooth, with a medium carb level. Clean and easy drinking. Something i'd drink again, hopefully they keep this one around regularly.

Served in a globe at Local Option.

Some fermented fun thanks to the boys' visit to Against the Grain in Kentucky. Right on. It pours a clear tawny amber topped by a finger of light cream foam. The nose comprises nutmeg, orange zest, light cinnamon, and some light caramel tossed in for good measure. The taste holds notes of orange peel, light dry caramel, orange rind, clove, and light black pepper. The body is a light medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a pretty nice Vienna lager, nothing Earth-shattering, but a highly palatable little drink.
