I have been here a few times now, some for beer and some for coffee. The atmosphere is very warehouse-like, with tall ceilings and lots of concrete. There is a small bar with a few taps - small selection, but well thought out. There are some less popular Belgian beers often on tap as well as a good domestic craft selection. The service is average, but the staff is certainly more concerned about coffee than they are beer. The clientele is typical coffee shop, with a lot of students studying.

All in all, not a bad place to go to grab a beer, particularly if they have something on tap you're interested in, but not worth seeking out.

Right across from Hop City and Five Seasons Westside. Octane hosts Hop City's beer tastings. You can take the #12 bus there.

The space is a nod to the light industrial heritage of the area. Open, brick and metal with exposed ducts. It's a hybrid coffee/beer joint along the lines of Java Vino or JavaMonkey. Pretty popular concept in Atlanta. It feels like more of a coffee shop, but they definitely are paying attention to the beer.

The beer selection is small but well chosen. Good service from the bartenders/baristas. Mixed crowd. Very laid back. You won't necessarily find anything here that you can't find at other places around town, but it's certainly worth a stop.

Stopped in here for a few drinks the other day.

Atmosphere is good - it's very spacious (high ceilings are nice) with a good deal of tables that somehow always manage to be full. I grabbed a seat at the fairly long bar where I could watch drinks being made, coffee and the more alcoholic varieties. Many people come here to work so it's definitely more on the quiet side, with no TV's.

Quality is good. Both beers I had were served in proper glassware with the appropriate amount of head and at a good temperature.

Service is also good. I had to wait just a bit for my first beer as the two people behind the bar were busy making coffee however they were certainly friendly enough and helped me out as soon as they were able.

Selection was very good. I expected to see the more common fare (SNPA, DFH, etc.) but was surprised to see quite a few of the more obscure Belgians and micro's. I had a Southampton Biere de Mars and Corsendonk Brown.

Value is good. Right about par for anywhere else in the city.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the selection here and may stop in for a drink or two every now and then. Worth a stop.

Squirreled away on Howell Mill between the Atlanta Humane Society and Georgia Tech, Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge is worth finding. Parking is a bit scanty, but it is convenient to at least one MARTA bus route. The food selection is no great shakes, but what they have is tasty and reasonably priced. It is their beer selection that does my heart glad - all microbrews and imports, and not one American big brand! Octane is small and does not have a lot of seating, but it is a good site for a small or medium gathering such as a Meetup. The alternative music they play is not too loud so you can have a good conversation. This joint is popular with geeks; one can always see plenty of laptops.

A great vibe in Midtown Atlanta over near Ga Tech where Marietta St and Howell Mill meet. A great selection of coffee and other hot drinks but it really shines in terms of beer selection for the size of the place. They only have four taps, but rotate them very frequently. Almost always have Dogfish 60 minute on tap (what's not to like there?) The other three taps rotate pretty frequently. When I went last they had Storm King, St Bernardus Wit (highly underated) and a great Allagash limited Curieux. Good and varied selection of bottles including stuff you don't see just anywhere. Aventinus, a Gueze, Corsendonk, and other great world class beers waiting for the true beer lovers or adventurous beer lovers to be.

Great and interesting music is always playing (again, not the stuff you hear in your average bar) and they have art by local aritsans to check out. Wi-fi available if you want to check your email or surf while enjoying your coffee or beer. It's about time Atlanta got a place with a true big city identity.

Check them out...you won't be sorry.
