Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
Hessian string, an embossed wax seal and info swing-tag make for fancier than usual packaging.
L- OMG?! There was a hiss of gas when I eased off the cap but IDR the last time I saw a beer pour and create effectively no bubbles. Even when I raised the pour height to 4-5 inches. I hope it's ok! Super-deep chestnut red with a hint of haze and zero head; it resembles a Long Island iced tea cocktail; not a thing of beauty.
S- Puddingy and deep, certainly in the barley-wine spectrum.
T- Ooph! Again absolutely of it's style. It's has a liquorish aspect to it but quite well constrained considering it's thumping ABV%. It this aged in brandy barrels or similar, it has something like that edge to it...
F- I don't yet know if this beer is intended to be effectively flat/CO2 free, but that is how it is and feels. I appreciate that at this ABV% retaining/saturating with CO2 is less physically possible but still the gas level seems literally nil. Otherwise, this is clearly a thumping big beer but it's very well balanced and enjoyable for it.
O- The lack of CO2 is a material distraction, otherwise it's an engaging and chunky barley-wine with no rough edges and presumably some well judged barrel ageing. Considering the price I paid, the CO2 issue is quite a let-down.
Review #1905/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> Nothing of interest there...
330ml bottle BB: Nov-2022 Euro9.50 Bought from BeerMania/Belgium as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
