Brownish reddish color- not sure which is dominant- with a decent amount of white head that disappears far too quickly. Nose is distinctly vanilla coffee with a few extra espresso shots and a dab of raisins. Soooo much vanilla extract. It's quite abrasive and attacking. Not in a bad way necessarily, but that'll wake you up in the morning laddy.

Taste is rather raisiny. And coffee. I'm usually not a raisin fan, but I like it in this- it's raisiny without being too sweet- and I'm digging it. Mouthfeel is chewy and full. Quite drinkable, I'd say. Never thought I'd dig this this much- but it's quite nice. I enjoy this more than many other pricey, hyped up brews- a good, very inexpensive brew. Go try it- NOW.

Served from a .5 liter Euro-style bottle. Pours a VERY dark brown/black, with a yellow/white head typical of a dark lager. Head is beautiful at first but not long lived. Smells sweet and yeasty. Taste is hoppy and burned, almost like it is going to be sweet but then isn't. Complex, but not my favorite.

Dark ruby in hue, active bubbly off-white head, it never reached more than a ¼ finger in size. Fair retention at best… some unorganized lace. The nose is pretty pleasant, malty with traces of candy, sweet buttery-caramel. Moderate potency. Inviting. Hmmm… this is one thin and watery beer. Yes, the maltiness is noticeable as is the buttery-caramel/candy hints... so is a note of faint DMS. Even with this flaw the flavor profile is unique, well constructed. It has its allure. The finish is sweet, tacky, rather long, similar aftertaste. Medium body, the carbonation is nil. This is a one-timer for me, probably worth trying once though.

This is a neat beer that is worth a try. I like the bigger bottle and it's a decent value. The label describes this beer as a cross between a pils and a lager and it seems so. It's darker than you would expect; a bit nore than amber. It's very nice looking in the glass but the head could last a little longer. The aroma is mild and inviting. The flavor is crisp and full. The malts tend to the sweetish side but the hoppy pils notes bring the balance around. The finish is nicely balanced as well. I don't think the drinkability is quite as good as the regular pils but this is an intersting alternative to a straighforward Euro pils or lager.

Rebel Garnet: man, I must have passed this bottle a thousand times before finally picking one up. At $1.29 a bottle, I’ve got to say one thing: DOH! Very unusual taste, the color is dark, the aroma is very malty, but the taste is dry like a sherry. I had anticipated more malt sweetness. Although there are substantial tastes of coffee, and burnt toast, the beer finished dry, crisp, and with only a lingering aftertaste like somebody dropped a smoky scotch into a glass of Cabernet. Not bad, and I’ll pick another one up in the near future.

Nice amber/garnet color with good rocky head.Smell of sweet malt and caramel even a little burnt.Nice sweet sustaining brew withcaramel and molasses as the prevailing flavors I got.Finished a little thin and watery,but all in all a pretty good European dark lager.

Presentation: 1 pint .9 fl. oz. Euro-style brown bottle.

Appearance: Deep, burnt amber with a healthy looking, creamy, frothy head lace that clinges to the glass.

Smell: Sweet dark malts, a touch of caramel with a slightly floral and buttery aroma.

Taste: Smooth with sweet dark malt flavours, some burnt caramel and even watery molasses at the end. In between there's a bit of dryness, hop rind-like flavours, some floral and herbal notes, and the slightest smoke flavour. A thin butteriness mingles with the caramel flavours, providing a really nice smoothness on the palate. Brew finishes sweet with dark malt residual flavours and a little dryness.

Notes: Man, this is one damn fine beer. All the qualities one might expect from a premium dark lager, plus it mixes the classic golden pilsner style. This beer is well balanced and enjoyably complex.
