Bottle: Poured a deep amber/almost orangey color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with some residual sugars notes is quite interesting. Taste is a good mxi between some fruity ester with some vanilla notes from the bourbon barrels and some caramelized malt notes with some residual sugars. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Enjoyable mix between the Belgian ale and the bourbon notes but not sure it is worth the price tag.

Poured from a 500ml. bottle, brewed info, lot 414.1112 (Nov 2012) Poured into a large wine glass. (getting over cold while drank this one, so take it for what it's worth)

A: Dark, opaque brown amber. Very thick aggressive head that dies off pretty quick to a fairly uniform lace on top with lots of micro-bubbles.

S: Oak-y wood, sweet, light alcoholic smell.... the oak dominates the other whiskey/beer aromas.

T: Not overly sweet, light dark malts. Plays up more the fruitiness of a Belgian style ale, slightly apply, but not as spicy as one would expect. Finish is a bit more oak/wood, bit Jack D flavouring but it's pretty light, and pretty bold alcoholic finish.

M: Medium-high carbonation, but average body for 9%.

O: Interesting Strong dark ale, but unfortunately the Jack D aging makes it taste more like a cheap whiskey than a fine aged boubon. Not as complex as a Belgium SDA can be, & this one like the lumberjack on the front is pretty bold, alcoholic and in your face. Needs some refining, a bit too much oak and carbonation and not enough complexity/spices. Base needs some work before the barrels can add more.

Thanks to hoppypocket for this one.

Poured from a 500ml. bottle, lot 304.1111 (i presume the 304th day in 2011 which is in Nov).

Appearance: A pretty thick head that disappears a bit too fast. Very cloudy brown body and there is a thin ring that remains.

Smell: Strong vanilla, light wood and sweet caramel.

Taste: Strong on the vanilla but not overpowering and light on the Jack Daniels. Not too sweet but the flavors lack some intensity.

Mouthfeel: Strong carbonation makes it gassy a bit though it calms down as it warms to reveal an average body as it doesn't measure up to what it should be.

Overall: An average ale. ABV is no impediment but it also lacks punch.
