decent with a nice amber color and a moderate head of white on the top. Even color and a nice carbonation throughout the session. The aroma was nicely balanced. Light pine hops, hints of bready malts and a light touch of caramel on the nose. Well balanced but nothing really jumping out at me. Smooth, even flavor here with the first sip identical to the last. Light caramel flavors that have overlapped with nice touches of hops. Light to medium body and an easy sessionability

A: A hazy, orangey, ambery copper with a small white head that quickly settles. Barely okay lace, but lacking for an IPA.

S: Tangerine & citrus peel hops. Apricot – either from esters or hops. Lightly caramel sweet and slightly grainy malts. General impression is fruity. Faint bit of diacytel. Good stuff, but could be stronger.

T: Flash of juicy sweet & caramel malts hits first just a step before hops come in. Hops open with tangerine mixed with estery apricot. Hops quickly go strongly bitter with loads of citrus, some pine and pine, and a slight bit of spice. Middle sees some diacytel & more caramel grainy malt push through. End is woody, bitter hops that turn to resin & rind in the long lingering finish as the last bit of sweetness fades. Woody, resiny hops get a bit destructive on the palate by the end of the bomber. Hop focused even for an IPA, a bit one-dimensional, and possibly a bit much if you don’t crave hop domination.

M: Average / medium body & carbonation. Maybe a touch thin for the style & strength. Still there are limited few dextrins to chew before the hops take it distinctly, and almost, drying.

D: Average or so. There is plenty going on, but is doesn’t quite meld and is very unbalanced. I like the diacytel as a nice counterpoint to the earthy hop bitterness. Actually, the end and finish are rather scraping. It could use a tad more malt backbone.

This beer poured out as a nice clear copper color with a strong white head on top. The smell of the beer is much hoppier than I expected. There is plenty of pine and citrus on the nose. The taste of the beer follows right along with that. Big amounts of hopes used in this brew. I really like it. The mouthfeel of the beer is almost medium bodied with a solid carbonation. Overall this beer is quite good and would like to have it again one day.

22oz. bottle poured into a nonic. Thanks to kegatron for the bottle!

(A)- Pours an orange colored hue. Produced a giant fluffy white head with a retention that just wont dissipate. Mountains of fluffy lace clumped all over the place.

(S)- A big juicy burst of lemon/lime citrus. Mild pine. The citrus is all over the place.

(T)- The same burst of lemon/lime citrus with an almost woody pine bite in the middle. Finishes mildly sweet.

(M)- A good crisp carbonation level. A really nice balance too of citrus, pine, and bittersweet components.

(D)- Wow, this was a surprise for me. A great IPA actually. A great look and smell and a solid backbone for the style. This exceeded my expectations in a style quickly starting to bore me, but this was an exception to that.

on tap at hawthornes in philly

Pours a hazed auburn brown color, thick fluffy white head, nice retention with patches of lacing along the glass.

Pine and citrus hops, bit of resin, thick caramel and bread notes with sweetness, almost no presence of alcohol.

Bitter piny hops up front, hints of citrus pith as well. Some grapefruit and orange moves into sweetness with apricot and pear. Thick malted backbone is prevalent with caramel and toasted bread, a bit earthy. Finishes hoppy and dry.

Medium bodied, mild carbonation, sticky and dry. Drinks pretty well - I felt like this almost had an English feel due to the heavier biscuit malt and caramel tones. Definitely more malted sweetness than hop profile.

$3.50 bomber from Abe's.

Hazy orange body topped by two-plus fingers of snow white foam.

Very mild grapefruit aroma, less than expected.

Small dab of malt fails to make a foundation. Earthy bitterness at the swallow. Dry finish. Mild fruitiness.

Medium to medium-light mouthfeel.

Ok drinkability, no real flaws, but low on desirability.

Overall a just ok ipa, but at least its inexpensive.

A: This one pours a slightly hazed orange color with a finger or so of white head.

S: Smells quite citrusy with a lot of lemon rind and orange, maybe a touch of tangerine. Unfortunately, there is a definite butter aroma to the nose. Some bread and maybe floral hop notes are also present.

T: Lots of bready malt with a subtle hop flavor. Lemon, orange, and bitter pine with floral hop notes to it. Quite buttery which is not pleasant in the slightest. There's a weird herbal note to the beer that I cannot exactly pinpoint.

M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

D: If nothing else, this brewery has a great name. However, this beer wasn't so great.

Pours a pale golden/yellow with a nice 2-finger white head that falls slowly while leaving lots of splotchy lace. There are a ton of floaties in this beer.

The smell is sweet and citrusy.

The taste is bitter, more of the citrus but it just taste wrong or something, it's not very pleasant and leaves this as a long, lingering after-effect,

Mouthfeel is medium and decently carbonated.

Drinkability is not good because of the taste and it's lingering aftertaste. I hope this isn't the way it's supposed to taste. I wonder if the thousand floating bits are supposed to be there?

A-Lightly hazed, golden kissed copper with a medium off-white head that reduced to a thin cap and left spotty lace.

S-Spicy, bitter, fruity hops up front with underlying sweet biscuit malt lying underneath. Not overly aromatic but decent enough.

T-Fairly assertive spicy bitterness up front with spicy herbal and citrus notes dominating. The underlying malt presence is supportively sweet but not overwhelming. While this is certainly a hop forward IPA the hop character doesn't quite work for me.

M - Medium bodied with long lingering hop bitterness and a drying finish.

D -Dry, and quite bitter and a good effort overall but it just doesn't push my buttons quite right. A brew that doesn't have anything wrong but isn't "right" for me either.

A- Pours a unfilterd bright orange look.

S- smell of hops nice grapefruit orange zest notes.

T- Citrus taste and orange zest. hops

M- Semi dry . hops and citrus notes linger through out sip.

D-Okay beer could be more slam with hops but it does have a good taste.

cheers...

Bavarian Barbarian 2x4 IPA is a very bitter IPA, but not in a bad way. The hops flavors in this beer dominant with resinous, oily pine up front and orange-citrus flavor as the beer warms up. The malt is properly thin so that with the bitterness can come through. Not the best IPA, but for the price, $3 for a bomber, I would definitely buy more
