A special, one off batch of First Snow Ale that was aged in a Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrel that had previously held GOTHIKA. Big thanks to LargeSarge for surprising me with this offer.
A -Deep, dark copper tinted brown with a thin tan head that reduced to a wispy cap of foam and left spotty lace.
S-Holiday spices with nutmeg, clove, ginger and cinnamon are all present and accounted for but are mellowed by the Bourbon sweetness. Upon warming notes of vanilla, oak, blackstrap molasses and a hint of turbinado shine through the initial spiciness.
T-Spicy, sweet combination up front from the aforementioned spices and bourbon blend. Not too spicy, nor too sweet. The addition of vanilla sweetness and dry oak from the barrel really accent the spices nicely.
M-Medium body with good lingering flavours and a building dry oak finish.
D-My pint vanished quickly. I really liked the way the sweet bourbon notes helped mellow, yet, at the same time, accented the spicy notes. I would like to see this one return.
