After several days of no beer, it is time crack open a cold one. This beer is from Big Sky, looking forward to drinking this beer. Poured into my Madison River Pint glass at 40 degrees. A massive three finger head and exceptional head retention. The head is a billowy, airy, and foamy head, leaving lacing on the glass as it slowly dissipated. The color of the beer is about an SRM 14, a rich amber. The clarity of the beer is clear with visible carbonation.
Moderate caramel aromas followed by resin, pine, grapefruit, bready, a touch of phenols, and yeast.
This beer is something else flavor-wise, but the aromas do not match the flavor. The beer has a moderate amount of toasted caramel, pine, resin, and grapefruit. A sweet but odd medicinal/phenolic flavor permeates the beer.
The mouthfeel of the beer is astringent, thin, and watery.
The body of the beer is medium light, a medium carbonation, and a medium finish.
The beer has a beautiful appearance, excellent head retention, and a pleasing nose. The flavor of this beer is something left to desire. I am not a fan of the sweet phenolic taste.

Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed deep amber color with a huge billowy off white head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a caramel smell mixed with some aromas of some hops of a more herbal and earthy nature. Mixed with these smells comes aromas roast as well as some nice smells of a more grainy and grassy nature.

Taste – The taste begins with a slightly more malty and sweet flavor with a decent dose of caramel mixed with a lightly roasted and toasted malt flavor. As the taste moves on toward to the middle, the sweeter flavors of caramel intensify and are joined by a little bit of dark fruit taste. After this point however, the sweeter flavors fade a bit all while some hop flavors of a more earthy, herbal, and grassy nature come to the tongue. With all the transitions that occur throughout the taste, one is left with a nicely balanced sweet, roasty, and hoppy amber flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average overall. For the mix of hop, roast, and sweet the feel is fantastic and makes for a very easy drinking brew overall.

Overall – This is a rather flavorful and drinkable red ale that has a nice blend of sweet, roast, and hop all while maintaining a respectable abv. of 5.25 %. If you get a chance I would say try it out and see what you think, as I rather liked it.
