Very happy to see this one return. Served in a 33cl glass. This new version has now become more akin to a pale bock. Appears a clear medium amber copper color with a good inch or so of creamy off white foam. Nose and flavors consist of um yeah, smoked malt, and lots of it. Guy says they did not hold back this time, and I agree. Prominent notes of bacon, smoked ham, tons of sweet and smokey malt, medium toasted bread, caramel, more bacon. Decent medium body with ample carbonation. Very fresh and smooth. I asked for my growler to be filled on the aroma alone. I'll be back for more while it's around. Absolutely no reason to drop $5 a bottle on Schlenkerla when this is flowing. What a great smoked beer!

Thanks to Deuane and FooFaa for sharing a growler on 3/9/10.

A - Dispensed as a surprisingly clear amber liquid with sparse carbonation and a finger's width of bubbly off-white head that completely vanished, leaving virtually no lacing at all.

S - Bacon and hickory smoked wood give this Rauchbier a very authentic meaty aroma, yet it still retains the sweetness of a bock with plenty of caramel malt sweetness. There is also a hint of earthy, herbal hops in the background, adding a bit of depth and bitterness to the aroma.

T - Sweet and salty meaty goodness... like bacon dipped in gooey caramel. There's plenty of hickory smoked meat and campfire character in there, however it doesn't get too overwhelming thanks to the sweet caramel malt presence. Herbal hops impart a leafy, clingy bitterness that sticks with you in the backend. This is a fantastic example of the style, perhaps one of the best I've ever consumed!

M - Medium bodied with a slick, oily texture and soft carbonation. Finishes with a smokey aspect and light hop bitterness on the palate.

D - This is a fantastic Rauchbier from Guy and easily one of the best American examples of this style I've encountered. If you enjoy smoked beers and you live within 100 miles of Berwick, go get some now!

A-Brilliant golden copper with a thin off-white head that dissipates to nothing leaving no lace.

S-Ummm...yeah, have I been transported to Bamberg? This is absolutely amazing! Smoked malt and caramel sweetness combine for an incredible aromatic profile!

T-WOW! This is exactly what a rauch bock should taste like. End of story. Smoke, sweet malt and bitter earthiness!

M-Medium body quite sharp with a nice bitter snappy smoky ending.

D-Really? I am not sure I really have to answer this. It is freakin' fantastic! About as solid as an American made smoked beer can get. Amazing!
