Copenhagen 26/3 2017. 50 cl bottle from Meny. As "Original Landbier Dunkel". A lot of Corn Ears and a little figure who looks a little like Bismarck on the label.
Pours clear dark brown with red tinge and big white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam. Moderate lacing.
Aroma s sweetish. Burnt caramel, sugar, lightly roasted malts and melted butter.
Medium strong carbonation and slightly thick palate.
Flavor is medium to heavy sweet. A little sugary. Light sweetness. Aftertaste is sweetish.
Fairly generic Dunkel. Too sweet for my taste buds. But not offensively so.

Just had the Aktien Zwick'l Kellerbier and now this one...same concept, which I'm assuming is an old recipe. Half liter swing-top bottle dated best by 16.10.24. This is pretty rustic, discernibly better than the Keller/Zwickl upon first sniff and sip. Lots of earth, some smoke, plenty of roasted malt, a bit of wood, and somewhat funky/tart in the finish. Not as tasty as the modern Dunkels but quite unique and a pleasant change of pace. Would certainly drink again.

Pours a clear, deep mahogany coloration, with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, bready and slightly caramelly malt, herbal, spicy hops and just a hint of coffee. Taste is a good balance of bready, roasted and slightly caramelly malt and grassy, herbal, slightly spicy hops, with accents of dark fruit; raisin, fig as well as hints of chocolate and coffee. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready, roasted malt, herbal hops and hints of dark fruit and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I think this makes for a very nice, and somewhat underrated, Dark Lager that perhaps suffers slightly from having been mislabeled as a Munich Dunkel, while feeling almost closer to a Schwartzbier with its slightly roasted malts and accents of choclate and coffee, balanced very nicely against herbal, spicy and bitter hops. There's a certain caramel sweetness to this as well, which is reigned in by those slightly roasted and bitter notes very nicely though. Still drinks quite easily despite a certain depth of character, kinda feeling complex and mild at the same time.

The labelling hasn't changed at all from the 12YO photo^, that's trad German for you.
Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Deep chestnut brown, pours clear with a 3mm pale tan head.
S- I just get some mild malts.
T- Despite being a darker beer it has a mild flavour, again just mild malts and some hops into the finish.
F- Sessionable. CO2 in the mouth is good.
O- Unexpected that I found so little to say about a beer, it's pleasant but nothing in particular stands out at all.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed!
500ml ceramic stoppered bottle BB: 24/11/21 £3 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

Poured from a 1pt 9oz swing top bottle with best before of 10.05.21 into a Kozel mug that I brought back from Prague many years ago. Pours smoothly with a good head that shrinks quickly, but leaves nice lacing throughout the entire drinking experience. The smell takes me back to some of the best German and Czech dunkels I've had and the smell seems to make the taste really shine with each sip. Taste is earthy and smooth with a clean finish. Very session-able on the palate and at 5.3 ABV I could have a few boots of these. Each sip gets progressively better and better and smoother and smoother...
