They call this "Highland Heath" but it does taste like a Belgian Amber. Big gush on pouring, but I had trouble getting through the wax dip, so it got a little rougher handling than intended. But it finally settles down to a hazy coppery orange brew with bubbles streaming in the Troubadour tulip. Acidic aroma of fermenting pineapple.
Sweet and tangy with a lot of malt. Caramel and guava, the fruity taste growing as you sip. I'm not sure I would identify any Scotch character beyond the abundant sweet malt. The finish dries out somewhat, like there's Belgian yeast. Then there's a faint sourish note. Complex stuff that doesn't fit into any category.
Overall this is a sweet and peculiar yeasty brew. Not very bitter, but the tart edge jangles with the sugar. From the 750 ml bottle purchased at Susan's Fine Wine & Spirits in Santa Fe.

Served in a nonic pint at the brewery. New glassware!
A- Chewy, perfectly thick and pillowy khaki-colored head. Deep amber body. 4.5
S- Caramel and a lot of plum. Not much barrel. Floral qualities too. Smells more Belgian than anything. 3
T- Wow. Plastic? Band-aid smell type of taste? Weird. Okay. That subsides soon enough. Now I'm getting something tasty. Spicy caramel and a bit of an oaken flavor. It has a lollipop type of flavor---syrupy or sticky flavors. 3.5
M- Medium-bodied, faint bitterness over easy-going sweetness. The plasticky taste and feel is my big complaint. 3.5
I'm curious if this is just the kegs or if bottles will taste the same. I'll need to revisit.
