i have not yet had the original, but this is a fruited version of it, tropical and still hoppy, to me kind of indiscriminate almost generic fruitiness, sweeter citrus and maybe pineapple, guava or mango, its summery, sweet without being completely over the top, and still has the hops in front which is a nice call, this type of thing is majorly on trend right now, especially in the single serve cans, new belgium started it but everyone else followed, and this one seems somewhat more honest, not because the fruit element is better, but because they at least tell you to expect more than hops alone, looking at you firestone walker. nice pale yellow to straw color on this, sunny and easy looking for its considerable size, short but not absent white head from the tap, a little more retention would be nice, but the carbonation is fine in this. the nose is like canned fruit cocktail, especially the mushy sweet pear pieces, which i happen to like a lot, brings me back, some orange to it, white wine fruitiness too, with the hops hitting a little grassy, a little lemony, and with just a bit of bitterness which i think is a nice touch, it presents as fresh, entirely neutral on the ferment, and the alcohol is reasonably well concealed, definitely juicy, also dangerous, sort of cocktail-esque to my nose. the flavor is similar, both the fruit and the hops start early, well selected on both sides, there is obvious synergy here. sweet citrus, modest bitterness, there is balance there, the grain is light, possibly a little wheaty, but relatively minimal in here without it not still drinking like beer, the grain is grounding and supportive and thats the right role for it in this. some pineapple sort of linger, but not as permanent on the palate as many of its peers, and overall, although this isnt the kind of big ipa i generally prefer, that its quite good. proceed with caution, drinking this one could go sideways pretty quick, it doesnt feel as strong as it is, and the flavors encourage more sipping. surprisingly good in an era where a lot of flavored beer is kind of bad...
