Dark, strong and malty. Brewed with our house ale yeast, this beer is a delight, sometimes served on nitrogen.

2017 can consumed out of a tulip on March 16, 2017 (in place of a Guinness on St. Patty’s Day). Had this can sitting around for years in good cellar conditions.
Look - poured dark brown, maybe a little translucent in the pour but certainly couldn’t see through it it the glass. Poured with a beautiful oversized head that I had to let sit for a while before my first sip. Quite handsome and thick.
Smell - bready and slightly alcoholic
Taste - hit every tastebud in the book - malty, bready, not toasty in the slightest, not too sweet, just right
Feel - medium bodied, I wouldn’t go so far as to call or creamy, but again, it hit every tastebud and sense available.
Overall - this is up there with the best of any German Dopplebock, and I’d go so far as to say better. I’d easily get this again and would be curious to try it fresh now that MW is back in business. Fantastic beer!

Reviewed from notes. Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a two finger off white foamy head that dissipated at a decent pace. Messy sliding lace. The aroma had some dark bread, baker’s chocolate, grassy to earthy hops, sweet coffee notes, light toast, and some dark fruits. The flavor was moderately sweet with the malty tones pulling the hops down pretty low as I hoped it would. Nice long bready aftertaste and finish. The palate was almost medium bodied but sitting just a touch under with a practically perfect smooth sessionable sort of feel rolling over my tongue. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Overall, really nice doppelbock well worthy of having again.

Nitro pour in a shaker pint, the beer is a dark ruby coloring, almost opaque. Low profile, dense, cream colored head. Nose of cream and nut sweetness, with a touch of roast. Flavors of nut and subtle apple sweetness, with a bready backbone. Tangy sweet throughout. Smooth, light body. Slight smoke in the aftertaste to accent the sweet base. Smooth, creamy finish. Very good brew.

Off the tap at the brewery this beer was an amber/copper color with good clarity. The two-finger head was khaki-colored, retained excellently and left thin bands of lacing. The aroma was rich and malty with caramel malt, wood and light Ale yeast. The flavors were sweet and nutty with notes of caramel malt, a slight sourness, alcohol, a touch of yeast and a bitter, coffee-like finish. The mouthfeel was smooth, the body medium and the carbonation light. A good example of the style and well worth a try.

From notes. On tap at the brewpub. Very attractive, deep amber/copper, red highlights, thin head fades to ring, no lacing. SMELLS malty, grainy, sweet, and of chocolate and vanilla. Took a little warming to find. TASTE is of chocolate, sweet malty, rich, smooth, balanced, and complex. Lightly but noticeably hopped. FEEL is of restrained carbonation, medium body, pleasant texture, clean finish. DRINKS very easily, especially for its size. And a lager I like! Imagine that. I could pound it. Very nicely done. I predict this little brewery will become more well known in New England, at least, and perhaps farther afield.
