The second beer in the grandchild series. Our brewer's German grandfather who influeneced him and sent him on his way to brewing beer, and eventually here @ Marshall Wharf. Thanks Grandpa Maxmillian! We brewed a small version at the same time Little Max.

This is definately a first for me and i know they say Red Ale but it pours more of pitch black kola hue which leaves a creamy one finger head and sporadic lacing, the smell is wow its boozy alcohol, liquorice, lots of caramel and also fruity resinous hops and even though the smell is nice its more like a strong ale or scotch ale and mouthfeel is thick and oily but not in the good way with tastes of burnt toffee, caramel, candied figs, cardomon pods and finished with a thick resinous carmelized bittersweetness and overall im glad someone classed this as a Strong Ale as its clearly not a Hoppy Red Ale which i was hoping for and with its weird mix of tastes its not something id seek out in a hurry but glad ive tried it cheers.

The beer had no head, and was a deep, blood red, almost black coloring. Very deep and vibrant appearance, it looks thick and viscous. Great cling to the glass. There is a malty, slight hopped, scotch nose, with some bready characteristics, too. The brew's flavors are very dark fruit and chocolate, with nut and lots of booze. Rich and cloying aftertaste, with lingering sweet caramel and alcohol characteristics. Thick and smooth finish. Tasty!

First had: on tap at Three Tides, Belfast, ME

A 10%ABV red ale that ends up tasting more like a Scotch ale than their actual Scotch ale. Very good though. Limited to 2 per person.

Poured a deep reddish brown with a small but dense off-white head. Sweet malts in the nose and a bit boozy. Sweet taste and a bit medicinal up front, with a definite alcohol bite very similar to a Scotch ale. Some dark fruits come through, cherries and plums; and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Medium mouthfeel, and pretty drinkable if you're in the mood for something strong.
