Tap at the pub.

Light fluffy head, nice lacing, hazy reddish auburn color.

Nose strong malty, juicy fruity esters, sweet candy caramel, lots belgian candy sugar, red syrupy candy.

Taste similar, sweet candy, darker reddish toasty malts with a hint smoke, fluffy belgian malts, lots of candi sugar caramel toffee etc, little cherry with belgian esters. Some light spicy chewy hops. Finish is sweet big bitter spicy chewy hops and some candi sugar.

Mouth is big bodied, booze is hidden well compared to wheat wine, decent carb.

Overall not bad, interesting malts, hops are not so great, decent Belgian esters.

Enjoyed on the outdoor eating area at Marshall Wharf.

A - Poured into a standard PINT glass a slightly hazy honeyed amber hue with a nice one finger head that left not much lacing but light retention.

S - Aromas of nice Belgian yaleast esters with some light malty caramel sweetness and toffee.

T - Taste is very unique...lots of yeasty esters, light banana notes ans toffee. Not too shabby.

M - Mouthfeel is light carbonated but the alcohol is noticeable.

O - Overall I felt this was a hair too boozy. Liked the flavor profile though

Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a hazy, dark, ruby-copper coloring with a thin, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of rich toffee and dates, with a mild yeast funk. Very mild nose. Flavors of tangy fruit sweetness, with heavy doses of currant, fig, and date peppered with some clove, coriander, and other funky spices. All of this rests upon a solid, bready backbone. This beer is heavy, which keeps the ABV from overpowering the palate and the imbiber. Light, filmy lacing along the glass. The aftertaste has some chocolatey and caramel highlights, both sweet and bitter at the same time. The finish is crisp, and slightly filmy, leaving a bit of the old world fruit behind. Very tasty.

 

4 Stroke is a Belgian Quad brewed for Novare Res' 4th anniversary. On tap served on a straight pint glass at Three Tides.

A: Somewhat murky, dark ruby in color. Thin layer of head is impressive considering the alcohol content. Minimal lacing left behind.

S: Nice Belgian phenolics, loads of fruit- plums, cherries. The alcohol is there but kept restrained.

T: Nice Belgian phenols- clove, light spice. Sweet with alcohol enhancing the candy and fruity components- bubblegum is there.

M: Medium to low carbonation- great for the style. Very full bodied as you'd expect...works well with the sweet fruity flavor.

O: This one packs a punch- alcohol and flavor! Definitely one of my favorite Quads to date. Happy Birthday Novare!
