Pours clear, dark brown in color, with one inch head. Taste is maple, roasted malt, and light to moderate smokiness. The maple sweetness lingers on the aftertaste. Definitely drinks more like a porter than a rauchbier. Tasty beer, although I prefer others in the style.

On-tap at Albion, New York, NY
A: The beer is black when viewed from afar—when held up to a bright light the edges of the glass are clear dark red in color. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that died down, leaving a thin collar and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of smoked malts are present in the nose along with some hints of bacon.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of smoked malts and hints of bacon with notes of maple towards the finish. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very robust flavored porter and would make for a good beer to sip on a cold winter night.

Poured from a growler.
Smells interestingly complex, and has a lovely deep maroon brown color. Head is rather thin and dispels quickly. Tastes rather sweet but not cloying, but I do not detect the promised bacon. The body is rather disappointing - it feels very thin - belying the promise made by the lovely color. Quite drinkable, but not particularly noteworthy. I wished I had filled my growler with something else. (ABV, not listed here, was labeled as 6.5%).

Had last night at Bar in New Haven, pours a nice deep dark color with a fluffy tan head that fades to a ring, a little lacing here and there. Smell is roasted porter malts, some chocolate sweetness. Taste is dark malts first, then middle is a great combo of char and chocolate. Some hints of sweetness and maple at the very end, no bacon though. Finish is slightly dry, heavier end of medium bodied. A nice sipping porter, for sure, quite robust. Missing the bacon and only got a little maple. Could be better!
