Picked this up recently at Cable Beverage in New York as this was the first beer from Great South Bay that I had in seven years. I love my Cream Ales and this was a textbook example as it was plenty sweet, fully, and easy to enjoy from the get-go.
This had a deep, golden hue to it that was filled with lots of bubbles and nearly clear as the head that topped it off was short, level, and complemented the liquid nicely. A bit of lacing was left behind as most of the soapy splotches were concentrated along the bottom half of my pint glass. Tons of Nilla Wafers, cookie, frosting, and cream were in the nose as this reminded me of old-school Cameo and Lorna Doone cookies that came from Nabisco when my Mom worked there years ago. The taste followed suit with some milk, cream, and sugar as this was a fitting a dessert beer as anything I've had in quite some time. Lots to enjoy here for something that was one-dimensional and quite potent - even if it took a bit for the alcohol to kick in.
Loved the body and carbonation as it helped keep things even-keel and light on the palate as this was plenty sweet and sticky without being cloying or a cliche at the same time. No date was given on the bottom of the can as this felt fresh and aged as well as a grocery store-bought cake. I say that because that's both the impression I got from the label and the feel of this beer. Want something with a bit more heft than Genny Cream but with all of the good bits kept in play? Reach for this as a perfect nightcap for a rare cool summer night such as this!

Can to snifter.
LOOK: bright yellow color, mostly clear, but some depth of color, excellent medium eggshell head with excellent retention.
AROMA: vanilla milkshake, light grains. Mostly smells like sugar somehow.
TASTE: reminiscent of weak decaf coffee that has been drowned out by WAY too much milk and sugar a la those 7-creams-7-sugars-Dunkin-Donuts-customers. Finish has some light bitterness mixed in with the sweet milk sugars and actually finishes pretty tasty....my earlier comment (although not inaccurate), was maybe a bit overly harsh.
FEEL: medium body, a little stickiness, certainly creamy,
Very Nice. A little too sweet, but some nice balance. Not amazing, but a nice take on the classic Genny Cream Ale.
