Enough of those ubiquitous amber brews for now. Let's turn our attention to a dense violet colored liquid sitting in a clear Imperial pint glass after its release from a pint can. This is a self- described milkshake IPA, a category not yet offered by Beer Advocate. So, it goes in, for now, as an American IPA. There's not much head nor glass lacing to describe, but the aroma is definitely of berries. The taste, too, is of berries and largely only berries. It's a stretch to put this in the IPA category. Malt and hops are virtually unnoticed. The lactose is at least only moderate, so the sticky aspect isn't terrible. The taste of the AVB is well hidden and maybe that's the best feature. This is a good example of why fruiting beer might best be left to sours.
