Citra, Chinook, and Simcoe- music to a hop lover’s ear. With a quarter of fermentable sugar coming from flaked rye, and Florida grapefruit peels, this take on the Northwest Style India Pale Ale is refreshing and balanced and our brewers’ go-to shifter beer.

L: Pours a copper orange yellow with a medium white head and thick sheets of lacing around the glass.

S: Sweet citrus, with a touch of lemon, a touch of passionfruit, and some dank hops, smells nice and inviting.

T: Sweet citrus, some lemon rind, a touch of passionfruit, a some spicy rye, very enjoyable.

F: Smooth creamy body, medium mouthfeel.

O: This is a very nice rye pale ale.

this is cool beer, a little old school and malty, but not too sweet or anything, and rather well balanced overall. the trick here is that its not too conservative on the pale rye malt, this really defines the beer, as it should, but so many of these use a trace amount of rye, not enough to impact flavor much and certainly not texture, so it was great to see this one on the bolder side of the spectrum, great call, and the hops are well selected for the spicy earthy rye as well, good recipe and execution overall. some citrus in the nose and taste, some pine, some danky weed, simcoe likely, maybe centennial too, northwestern and woodsy, higher alpha, pithy and a little oily, but complimented by some sweeter crystal malt to take the edge off, full bitterness on the finish, which puts it almost into ipa range for me, despite it being listed as a pale here, certainly blurs the line anyway. i love the aftertaste, where i get the peppery rye and the grapefruity hops the most. there is a fuller bodied smoothness to this, a clean ferment, and enough carbonation. a bit more assertive than most, which makes it for me. i liked all three beers i had in their missoula taproom last week!

6/2018...Bronzed gold. Foam ring. Rye comes through in the nose. Light bodied citrus malt that spills into the rye bitter. The key ingredient is very light. The carbonation is minor. Just ok.

Enjoyed on tap at the Lakeside Tamarack brew pub. This is not a beer for the faint of heart - it has bold, bright flavours that suit the beautiful place it is brewed. The citra hops add a lovely grapefruit and pear zest to the earthy flavours of the rye. This beer is a staple when we visit the Tamarack.
