On tap at the Boise pub... Pours a clear deep amber... Short lived light khaki head dies back leaving no lacing.
Nose is thick and malty... plenty of dry toast and caramel... whiskey shows as vanilla and oak... EtOH is a little much with warmth... a bit of fruity esters make me think dried cherry or plum.
Flavor is a monster.. alcohol again is heavy for my liking, caramel and toasted malt.. fruitiness comes off as dried cherry or overripe plum... whiskey notes are there, but IMO probably contribute more to the big EtOH burn.
The sweetness and the malt complexities make me think this should be pretty thick, but instead the opposite... pretty thin and slippery.
Rich, but not exactly "civilized"... Definitely a "Western" take on a wheatwine. I am sooo happy that they didn't use a damn Hefe yeast like a lot of breweries.
