a light but drinkable example of the style here, well, i guess all kolsch should be light and drinkable, but this one is lighter in flavor than many, refreshing more than flavorful, but crisp enough and with that sort of lagered snap to the feel that i like. it does sport a little honey note from the grain earlier on, but then gets decidedly german on the malt side, crackery and dry, simple but right for the style. the yeast is identifiable as kolsch yeast for sure, but its also really mellow in the flavor, just flashing in briefly at the end, not as dramatic as some of the imports, but clean in its fermentation work. the hops are noble and the part of this i think i like the best, they seem fresher than a lot of examples of the style, less distance traveled obviously, i had this fresh at the boise brewery, but i get a soft citrus layer i dont usually get in a kolsch, before the more familiar balancing bitterness comes in. i like the freshness it adds. good carbonation, refined finish, good day time beer, nice patio drinker, an obvious choice for summer!

On tap at the Pearl location.

A clear light yellow orange with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing this looks solid. The nose is classic kolsch. Soft malt with a blend of an airy cotton candy, fresh bread, a little bit of an earthy, lemony character, this is great. Mildly fruity with a delicate moutfeel with spun silk and cotton candy, this beer is excellent.
