a golden ale with pear in it, a curious brew, almost cider-esque to us, and a little bit sweet as they go. seems like they have been doing a lot of playing with this base golden ale at the boise location, seems like different fruits or peppers or something in it every time i stop in. here its pears, and the pear is natural enough, green and ripe, but its fleshy and sweet with the malt in the taste, and has an almost baked note to it, pear cake or something, they could have scaled back the grain a touch or else fermented this down drier to clean and lighten it up a bit. i do like the pear though, its not like perfume as it can sometimes be, and it beings a neat almost white wine note to this. i want this to feel light and airy with these flavors and a summer breeze blowing through the place, but its a little more sugary and a little less carbonated than the flavors seem to demand, so its a one and done without ever really getting to that high refreshment value it seems capable of. still, neat to see the experimentation in here, and its cool that their beer list changes so frequently. a good morning beer here and a fine use of the pears.
