on the edge of being a red ipa here, this is sturdy as can be, an awesome hop forward brew with some substance for this time of year, fresh on tap at the boise location, which never gets enough credit for being an awesome place to drink and eat, always something cool brewing. mostly clear but not as shiny as some, a short tan head rests on top, and there is a strong nose of piney hops riding with a deeply earthy kilned type malt complexion, bold to my senses, but also balanced, clean, and well refined like so many of their beers are in here. for the maltiness that really is the engine room of this, its not a heavy beer to drink, the flavor of the grain is there but its fairly dry in the finish and doesnt sit big on the tongue or in the belly, even though there is some body here. the hops have some citrus too, and a wintery woodsy complexion, very fresh, and work nicely with the toasty warm grain. minerals throughout, a very tidy ferment, and overall a beer that satisfies on a number of levels, maybe not quite at ipa bitterness levels, but this has a lot of hops to it for an everyday red, and ends up being a delicious companion to their spicy chicken wings in here. i could have had several of these, very good from a quality standpoint, a little more than just a conventional red with the extra hops!
