fun use of the belma hop here, a real modern context for it and one of the heavier handed expressions of it i have known, its robust as can be in here, uncompromised by other varietals, and stands quite well on its own. the beer is real yellow, pale and whitewashed looking, frothy white headed, and pretty darn hazy, a little thicker than anticipated, especially at this lower abv, not quite messy but not sterling either. the nose is awesome, big red berry character from the belma along with sweet orange and a little of that herbal quality i sometimes get from citra, especially as it warms up a little bit. the flavor is freeze dried strawberries, lemongrass, and tangerine, just a little green bite from being on the edge of overdosed, but its not bitter in the traditional hop sense, just has some staying power past the swallow. the grain side of this is a little soupy and fuller, but the ferment is clean enough and its really all about this unique hop, i think a cool showcase of it. something slightly peppery hits late too. i think they could stand to refine this up just a little bit, but this could easily become a full timer for them i reckon...
