Appearance- I was given a glass that had very little head. It appears that the head would have been a light creamy beige while the body is a muddy, dark chocolate black. Minimal lacing is left behind.
Nose- This is quite subdued and needs some time to open up. At the moment, there are notes of almond and a subtle and rich malt bill. It reminds me of a malted. Unfortunately, it really lacks presence. This doesn't really change as it warms.
Taste- At first, I get chocolate, raisin, and some coffee. This is pretty typical of an imperial and feels a bit uninspired. It is also a bit watery and thin. If you really try, you can get a sense of the complexity of the malt bill but it takes some work. It really lacks presence and it is easy to ignore. A little bit of heat. Some biscuit, some grain. Really doesn't taste like 75 IBUs either. Not a bad beer, just a little boring.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with some carbonation.
Drinkability- Bland but pretty easygoing. The alcohol is fairly mellow. A little expensive at 3 bucks for a 4 oz pour.
Overall- Above average but really kind of average for an imperial stout. Worth a try but I certainly wouldn't repurchase this beer.
