Townshend’s Number Nine Stout - 500 ml 4.0% - purchased and consumed on South Island, NZ
Pours clear, very dark mahogany with a small, creamy, light brown head that leaves splotchy lacing.
Feel: medium body; smooth but with lively carbonation that works well.
Aroma: a load of dark roasted and chocolate malts with hints of smoke and molasses.
Flavor: similar to the aroma with hints of milk chocolate, toffee and espresso. Dark roasted malts with a bit of coffee and burnt grain in the long-lasting, mildly bitter aftertaste.
O: an enjoyable stout with plenty of dark roasted malts.

This beer comes in a 500ml bottle which states it is from batch #70 and my bottle says it is 4.4% contrary to the first reviewer anyways it pours a jet black as night colour with nice carbonation that leaves a one finger creamy head that leaves a ring of lacing,it has aromas of dark roasted bitter coffee and dark fruits,it has an above average mouthfeel but not exactly a full mouthfeel for my liking of the style and it has tastes of roasted mocha, blackcurrants and a subtle malt finish,i have had better examples of the style but neverless easy enough to drink and glad i know what its like.

A - Poured into a pint glass a completely opaque black with a couple of centimetres of tan head that falls away fairly quickly.
S - Sweet chocolate milk and roasted coffee dominates the aroma - not a bad thing!
T - Much like the smell initially but a slight fruity and floral quality comes through towards the back.
M - Medium to full bodied, fairly low carbonation. Lingering roasty bitterness.
D - A very nice stout indeed. At 4% highly sessionable on a cold winters day.
