$11.50 NZD per 425ml draught pour @ Free House, Nelson, New Zealand. Yes, on-draught not on cask/handpull, which apparently is a bit unusual for Townshend.

I think it's hopped with Idaho 007 exclusively, but apparently they've put out a 4.5% ABV version of this in the past (instead of the 6.5% ABV version I'm reviewing) unless their website has a typo or Free House is misinformation as to the ABV of what they're pouring.

A: Turbid muted orange. Not filtered. Not much to look at.

T&Mf: Tangerine creamsicle is strong here, finishing on a milkshakey citrus note that is more developed than many of the so-called milkshake IPA beers out there. Juicy, creamy, citrusy, marmalade suggestive.

Smooth, refreshing, medium-bodied, wet, well carbonated. Not pulpy or overly thick. Not milky.

O: Drinkable and a good showcase for Idaho 7 hops, though I don't know that Idaho 7 is a great choice for a single hop ale, and this drinks less assertive than it should if it's meant to be a turbid IPA at 6.5%, but drinking it it does taste more like 4.5% ABV and underpowered in terms of hop pungency.

Seems like yet another victim of the unfortunate fixation on "session hazies" prevalent in Australia and New Zealand (but at least it's not targeting that absolutely wretched 3.5% "middy" segment the Aussies keep shitting out mediocre beers in). Not a great hoppy ale, but an enjoyable one for what it is.
