Tap at Prison Brews

A - Poured an orange color with hints of gold. Nice lacing.

S - It smelled of pine and citrus. It also had a light caramel malt aroma.

T - Good bitter hop bite. A very piney and grassy hop character. It had a nice roasted malt flavor.

M - It was sharp and crisp with a dry finish.

D - One of the best regular ales at Prison Brews.

Appearance: It has a cloudy gold body with an amber hue. There is some very good lacing that is somewhat spread out and soapy. The off white head was thin but lasted for a while.

Smell: There is a profoundly floral aroma with citrus and malt in the smell.

Taste: I like the fact that these guys dry hop their IPA’s. You truly get an appreciation for the types of the use. It the combination of hops used produced a pollen and citrus flavor that was great for the inner hop head. There was some alcohol flavor to the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied

Overall: Not really my style beer but keeping objective it was pretty good.

Pours a clear, dark cola brown with a very thick pale tan head that hangs around for a while. Yeasty aroma has notes of malt and fruit plus just a hint of caramel. Rich flavor has malty, caramel and fruity notes plus a hint of yeast and - wow, quite an alcohol bite! Just what one expects from a barleywine. Smooth, firm-bodied texture has plenty of fizz, and gets in a nice Parthian shot of alcohol bite just before heading downstairs.
