Served from a whiskey barrel at Dr. Dremo's Oktoberfest 2004. No forced carbonation or anything. Just good old gravity.
Appearance: Clear dark reddish orange with a small frothy head of foam. No real head retention or lacing to speak of.
Smell: Very nutty aromas and a small amount of woodiness and toffee.
Taste: Mild sweetness of nutty malts with caramel and faint prune notes. Just a wee bit of woody tannins.
Mouthfeel: Very watery with gentle carbonation.
Drinkability: Cask-conditioned lager? Well I suppose it's historically accurate. A nice gimmmick, but I think this experiment is one not worth experimenting. Whiskey overtones and märzen didn't mix too well, IMHO.
