Pours slightly hazed copperish amber with a thin head.
The smell is of caramel with some floral notes.
The taste is of caramel and nutmeg. Nutty background (hazelnut?) Water seems to dilude some of the flavors. Not really picking up on the hops much - certainly less than in the aroma.. It's rather sweet with just a hint of hop dryness (dare I say bitterness? Not really - just enough to hold sweetness to a tolerable level. The caramel and nut border on overpowering other flavors.
The feel is rather thin and watery, but it doesn't completely fall apart. Fairly smooth, though carbonation is just a hair too prickly.
It doesn't fit easily into a style. The website didn't say (or even mention the brew the last I checked). A friend of mine brought this back from Virginia for me. I called the brewery and was told that it was an IPA!!! My friend confirmed that he was told the same thing when he was there. I cannot honestly rate this as an IPA since it is so malty in character. It is made with ten grains, ten ounces of hops for the tenth anniversary of the brewery.
