Dark amber color, fails to develop any head. Aroma imparted some barrel, so that was an upgrade if you've ever had the regular ipa.
Taste doesn't impart much beyond the bitterness and oak. Really doesn't display any ipa properties beyond sheer bitterness and crystal malt, which neither did the base beer I guess get into hop flavor realm.
Overly boozy. If this was a letter grade, it would be a D.

Auburn to light brown pour, no head, aroma definitely better than the base version.
Taste largely swaps any semblance for hop mouthfeel with simply a bitterness from either a long boil or its just the chardonnay's lasting effects. Or both. Definitely delivered on the oak barrel aspect of it, lots of that flavor, this is prolly one of the more dominant white wine barrel flavors I've come across (if not the most) in my time. Can't say it necessarily works, but its not a total failure, as I like this version more than the base version, nonetheless, its still a choice at the fest that I retrospectively wish I used on a different beer.

Sampled 11/13/2010 at -bal fest 2010.
Pours amber/brown, hazy, small off white head, some lace, not much lacing.
Aroma is butter, oak, wine, sweetness, and bitterness.
Flavor is butter, light fruity hoppiness, Chardonnay, medium bitterness, oak, and dry. Meh.
Body is medium, drinkability is low.
