As the first bottle I reviewed was past its expiration date, I decided to give it another try. Paid off, as this version was much better. Bottled on 7/19/03, I opened it on 8/25/03.
Poured a nice deep clear gold with a fairly substantial white head that settled quickly, but then lingered for quite a while. The nose was malty, with a nice touch of flowery hops. The mouth was prickly and medium-bodied, with none of the sourness of the earlier version. The taste starts with sweet malt, but the hops kick in quickly. There's just a hint of a metallic taste to the bitterness, but mainly the hoppy bite is pleasant, flowery and smooth. The aftertaste is nice and hoppy. Not HopDevil hoppy, mind you, but quite a pleasant experience.
