This beer was recently tapped at Marble Brewery's downtown Albuquerque location. The beer was served in a tulip glass.

The beer looks beautiful in the tulip, showing a big, caramel and khaki-colored head about three to four fingers thick. The liquid is dark black and opaque. On appearance alone, you'd think this beer was Marble's Pumpkin Noire, which has a similar appearance.

The beer has a similar smell to the Pumpkin Noire as well, at least initially, with its big roasted malt and chocolate profile mixing with pumpkin mild spice. Black Magic Pumpkin, however, has a much stronger chocolate nose and potent notes of bourbon, due to the beer's aging in bourbon barrels.

The taste combines the maltiness, chocolate, pumpkin and has a cocoa-like aftertaste that is semi-sweet and pleasant. Bourbon and oak flavors accentuate these flavors and give them some heat.

The beer doesn't quite drink as smoothly as the Pumpkin Noire as the alcohol is much more apparent and gives a considerable kick, but the beer still has a great creamy, thickness that somewhat balances this out. This beer is excellent, but it's one I wish I could buy a bottle of and stash for a few years, as I am sure it would age splendidly and the liquor would dissipate considerable. Still, overall an outstanding beer and one I'll have to drink by the gallons while it's still on tap.
