The beer pours a fairly dark copper amber color with good head retention and light lacing. The beer seems almost viscous, and has the look of a beer that has had some pretty serious barrel aging. On the nose, this beer is pretty complex, as I pick up brown sugar, light caramel, noticeable rum, along with hints of chocolate, coconut, sherry and butter. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this rich, sweet, almost decadent strong ale. There's a hint of heat from the alcohol on this beer, but it's not excessive or obtrusive. Mouthfeel is full without the beer being heavy or cloying. Alcohol is noticeable, but for all that, well integrated into the flavor profile.

This is definitely a sipper, but is also quite excellent. Very reminiscent of the stock ale from North Coast, but to my palate, superior to that fine beer (and I'm a fan of the stock ale). Impressive beer for sure.
