Brasseur De Montréal "Rebelle Québécoise"
on tap at the brewery on 6 Octobre 2014
Notes: 6.5% ABV. Hazy deep gold beneath a short head of bright white. Pumpkin pie puree, or sweet potato-like aroma with hints of ginger and clove. The flavor follows with softly sweet grainy malt. Medium-light in body with a median carbonation. Balanced. Well-brewed. Unusual and interesting.

Brewed with Belgian yeast so i'm pitting it against it's Belgian counterparts, look out!
Utterly weak appearance, decent 1-2 fingers worth of foam but quickly dissipates and leaves zero lacing. You'd think i have a glass of apple juice, not a Belgian pale ale. Flavor has hints of white grapes and pears, decent feel but this fails as a Belgian-style ale.

A: Body looks good, head is big and white, carbonation is medium low, head dissipates moderately slow but not leaves lots of traces.
S: alcohol is present and it is sensed fast, also little hops but some fruits, a problem is that this aroma is not of fresh fruits but of old or fermented.
T: Flavor is no easy, it contains fruits and malts and hops, all must be present ingredients for a red ale, hops are high.
M: Sensations are complicated, not an easy beer to drink, it has a good long bitter ending, bitterness starts low and increases really fast, even it is balanced due to the sweetness characteristic of the fruit bitterness is higher than sweetness.

Translucent apricot-coloured body with a good cover of off-white head. Decent retention and some lacing. Some yeast sediment is visible. The only description the label offers, along with "strong beer", is "ambrée et maltée"...or amber and malty. Nice.
The nose is very malty, with lots of minerals and hints of earthy hops and smoke. Light spices and possibly Belgian yeast.
Interesting stuff; it's definitely a big mixup style-wise. One of those beers there's no real way to put a style label on. If I had to label it with something, I'd say it tastes like some kind of cross between a Belgian wit and a hoppy amber ale. Well-balanced with a decent amount of earthy hops, spices (coriander, cloves, nutmeg), wheat, orange zest, dark fruit, roasty malt (bordering on smoky), touch of alcohol. I'd say it works but it's taking me most of a bottle to get used to.
Nice medium body and full-but-light carbonation. Good feel.
I think I'd pick up a sixer of this sometime. It's interesting, flavourful and probably my favourite offering from Brasseurs de Montreal after their Millésime. I wouldn't mind knowing what the brewery was going for here as the label doesn't offer up many clues; maybe they just want to leave you guessing. Whatever it was, it does seem purposeful and well-executed.

Bottle from a sample flight brought back to me from the brewery.
Poured into a nonic. A caramel-coloured brew, slightly hazy, with a nice fluffy head that recedes into a fine little ring. No lacing.
Nose is very intriguing. Smells like a wheat beer more than anything else, with strong malt, yeast, fruit, banana, caramel and hazelnut, but it's also coupled with a strange scent that took me a good five minutes to figure out: sweet potato. Though it may sound weird, this smelled to me like a sweet potato in its finest form: fresh off the barbecue, slightly burnt, with melted brown sugar on top. Oddly enough, it works.
The flavor is similar to a wheat beer or scotch ale, or maybe a bit of Belgian pale in there as well. Fruity, slightly tart, good malt kick, that same sugary yam flavor, and only a touch of hops. Spices to the finish.
Thin bodied, slick, pinprick carbonation. I agree with some others - this feels, and looks, like an English cask ale.
Huh. Really dug this, though the first sip was a bit of a struggle. A unique blending of styles that somehow worked together well. It doesn't really fit the Red Ale category at all, but then again, I'm not sure where it fits. The flavors, though nice, are a bit much for more than a bottle or two, but still an intriging brew for my first Brasseurs de Montreal offering.

I didn't expect much from this one, however it turns out to be a very good beer. Copper color beer, clear. Cloudy looking head but it disappear fast. Some fruits notes in the nose and some malts. Fruity in the mouth. Not much bitterness. It feels creamy and full bodied. Caramel notes in the taste too. Drinkability is high so be careful since this one is 6.5% ABV.

Pours a nice clear amber color with two fingers of creamy thick head. Visible carbonation. Head retention is quite good.
Some light malts and a hint of spice.
Initial taste reminds me of a wheat beer and then some malt kicks in. Some spice is also present. Hint of alcohol at the tail end. Spice flavor lingers a bit.
An odd hybrid of styles but a good one. Definately worth a try if you are looking for something new and/or out of the ordinary.

341ml bottle poured into a pint glass.
I heard about this brewery once and the convenience store near my home has all theier beer in stock, so, why not?
A : Light copper color, good head that stays long enough during the tasting.
S : Some caramelized malts, there is also a smell of spices and herbs. It reminds me of some vegetables too, but nothing bad coming out
T : Light taste, some spices. Sweet malts, really enjoyable.
M : Not too much carbonation. Otherwise, pretty average on this side.
D : Really good, is changes from other amber beers. The taste is particular and is also very enjoyable. I will definitely buy some more of those.

Grabbed a six pack of this at the store near Dieu du Ciel! in Montreal.
Poured a pretty amber, head that fell quickly. Smell is spicy- some cloves in there as well as some banana.
Described as an amber, but that only seems accurate if you're talking about the color. To me, it tastes more like a white ale with more malt. That said, the combination is pretty good. I drink these way too fast. The wheaty smoothness plus the sweet Munich maltiness are a great combination.
I rated the drinkability a bit low because of the strength of this beer, but it definitely sneaks up on you.
