Got a pint of this during my recent visit to the brewery. This beer is a clear, medium to dark, amber/copper color. The white head was an inch thick when served, settling to a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass. Little lacing. Aromas of citrus hops and a bit of caramel malt. The hop flavor wached me over the head from the first sip, followed by some citrus and slight caramel malt. This is a real bitter hop monster, a one dimensional beer to be sure. Has a crisp, full bodied, frothy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy enough to drink. Not shabby at all.

OBC has brought back this local favorite just in time for the waning days of summer. Since the brewer of this hearty ale just happened to have also created the recipe for Great Lakes' Nosferatu, Twice Bitten is not surprisingly a very similar treat. I've had Nosferatu on tap and from the bottle, and I must say that Twice Bitten is at least as good.

a - pours a distinctively deep red, hearkening ghoulish images of autumn; head is a thick amber foam with significant lacing

s - a slam dunk of fruity, slightly menacing hops

t - hops, hops, and more hops, with just enough toasted malt to create a tenuous balance

m - a delightful expression; mildly carbonated with a bold, yet friendly body

d - given the right situation, this is the rare strong ale that can be had one after another. so give your keys to the wife!

A: A nice rich bronze color with a thin white head that leaves a little bit of lacing in the glass.

S: Nice big hop nose with a pleasant malt backbone.

T: Slight Malt sweetness upfront but then hops wash over your tongue, quite tasty

M: Medium body and carbonated just right.

D: I could drink this until I passed out!

I met the brewer at a bar one night and he told me he was working on this brew. He wrote the original GL Nosferatu recipe and said this was a new take on a classic and I must say I am impressed. I hope this isn't blasphemy but I think I might like this more than Nosferatu!

On-tap at the OBC - 12/18/08

A: Pours a murky, dark brown. Light spots of lacing.

S: A wallop of hops hits the nose right away. There are some other subtle aromas from the malts in there, but it's mostly just hops.

T: Resiny and piney hop flavors dominate with a brutal bitterness; other flavors persist though, with a pleasing burnt caramel flavor providing some contrast. Quite intense.

M: Full-bodied and thick with light-moderate carbonation. Sticky texture and a bitterness that clings to the palate.

D: If you like GL Nosferatu, then this is for you - after all, both recipes were created by the same guy. This beer is intensely hoppy and assails the palate, but an excellent example of the style and one of the best that Dennis has brewed at OBC so far.
