Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a nice huge foamy head with excellent retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry hoppy notes with some rustic malt is quite singular. Taste is a complex mix between some dry hoppy notes with light spicy undertones, some ginger though not as much as I would have expected and some citrusy notes with light funky yeast. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Nice level of complexity but drinkability is somewhat diminished by the dry aftertaste.

750ml bottle poured into tulip 4/10/14, thanks Phyl21ca for sending me the bottle
A cloudy pale yellow, about as many bubbles as you could fit in a glass, tornado of bubbles popping off the bottom, she's lively alright with a large loose soapy foam that grows go a minute or two and retains well after it calms down, lots of thick lace deep down the glass
S it is what it claims with lots of ginger and farmhouse yeast, lemongrass and lemon peel, a little spice, cereal, faint bubblegum, and white pepper, smells massive
T spicy, grainy, lemon rind comes out strong, what I smells still there just toned down a little
M lighter side of medium, fluffs up quickly with heaps of carbonation but its too be expected from the style, a little grit after the fact on your gums and some bubblegum and lemon lingering
O very drinkable, massive nose, very well suited for what may be the last 20 degree evening of the year for me
A solid random brew that I'd never know existed if it wasn't for my CANBIF box, well worth trying, a nice hidden gem

The body is a rich golden apricot hue. Despite its haze, very strong levels of carbonation are visible. Over three fingers of fluffy, whipped paper white head delicately float on top. The sides of the glass are coated with thick and stringy patches of lace. This is a beautiful looking Saison.
Sorachi ace comes through in a big way in the nose. Ripe peach and pineapple are very prominent. The ginger also makes itself easy to pick out. It gives the nose a zing and some additional liveliness. There's a pinch of tartness from the wheat and a whole lot of hay in the background.
Its ginger quality is what's showcased in the taste. It's a bit unrefined but doesn't come across as sharp or biting. It's more pleasant and sweet. Lemon peel and tart wheat are paired with the ginger from beginning to end. The peach isn't lost, it's just more of an afterthought. There's a bit of everything in the finish. A bit of hay, a touch of tartness, and a subtle bitter grassy note creeping in.
The body borders on light to medium. There's a spritzy level of carbonation with a soft foamy feel. It's crisp, clean, and thirst quenching.
An exceptional Saison. Unlike many beers available to me on the market today, what makes this beer unique is what helps to make it exceptional. In the nose especially, the ginger helps to accentuate the lively fruity aromas inherent in the Sorachi Ace hop and goes a step further by adding a snappy zing. With the ginger more prominent in the taste, I see this being a perfect beer to pair with Asian fare. This is a great collaboration and an ode to the incredibly advanced and unique Quebec beer scene.

SERVICE: Bottle
A:
Pours a hazy golden straw with three fingers of head that slowly settles to and holds at one. Good retention; some fat lacing globs. (4.25)
S:
Sweet and peppery. Sweet yeast and ginger predominate, pepper, some sitrus hints, but otherwise pretty simple and straightforward. (4.25)
T:
Zesty and sweet at the end. Lemongrass, ginger spice, pepper, weed, ginger sweetness. (4)
M:
Thin and effervescent with a bone dry and slightly tart finish. (4)
O:
Pretty decent Saison.
This is a fairly easy-drinking single-hopped flavored saison brewed by two good Quebec breweries and it manages to be interesting while not being abrasive.
It pours nice and has champagne carbonation and good head thoroughout. The smell is interesting and showcases the ginger and yeast strain used but it also has 'food'y/umami characteristic to it that I can't quite put my finger on. It tastes like peppery candied ginger, but is a bit thin.
Ginger and Sorachi Ace obviously go very well together, but I think that the ginger kind of overpowers rather than accentuates an otherwise very good dry saison. But that's just, like, my opinion, man. Would be a delight to pair with.
Would probably have again; worth a shot if you ever come across it (although I think it was a one-off). (3.75)
